Ring of Honor Cards & News Part 2

  • Zitat

  • A N Z E I G E

  • March 4th: Jimmy Jacobs has more reason to destroy Tyler Black after falling to him in the first TV main event at the inaugural ROH on HDNet Television Tapings last weekend. After the TV cameras stopped rolling, Brodie Lee and Delirious attacked Black at Jacobs’ behest and left him lying. Now Tyler will go for another measure of revenge in St. Louis as he teams with Jerry Lynn! Black and Lynn earned each other’s respect when they battled to a draw in Detroit, and Jerry’s no stranger to battling with the AOTF as he faced Brodie Lee at the TV tapings. It's Lynn and Black versus the Age of the Fall in St. Louis!

March 4th: “Nature Boy” Ric Flair apparently has words for ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness in the upcoming ROH Videowire. ROH officials received word from Flair’s camp that the legend has his eye on McGuinness after reviewing some recent ROH footage to familiarize himself with the company. We’re led to believe that the “Nature Boy” has been critical of the recent tactics McGuinness has used to secure victory.

March 4th: “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson acted quickly once he learned that Bison Smith was not going to agree to face him on back-to-back nights in St. Louis and Indianapolis. For the card on March 14th in Indianapolis, he requested, and has been added to the match between Claudio Castagnoli and Kenny Omega; making this a 3 Way Dance. Danielson faced and defeated Omega once before as part of a 3 Way Dance in ROH’s last appearance in Toronto, so he’s familiar with Omega’s style, while the history between Dragon and Claudio has been well documented. Claudio has been on a roll as of late; will he defeat two men that have given him problems in the past?

March 4th: Speaking of Bryan Danielson, he has signed to face “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush in singles competition when ROH comes to suburban Pittsburgh on March 20th! A victory over Danielson would go a long way toward building huge momentum for the returning Quackenbush!

March 4th: “Dirty” Ernie Osiris allegedly stole Grizzly Redwood’s red lumberjack hat after dropping a fall to him in Danbury last weekend. Osiris reportedly has been trying to sell the hat on various internet marketplaces. If you have any information that will lead to the recovery of Redwood’s hat, please email rohhelp@aol.com. Thank you.

March 4th: Jimmy Jacobs has requested a meeting with the ROH Booking Committee to discuss the "7th Anniversary Show" on March 21st at the Hammerstein Ballroom in midtown Manhattan. We have it on good authority that he has an idea in mind to send some sort of a message to Tyler Black in the very building where he and Austin Aries did the unthinkable and bloodied Tyler in front of the New York faithful. We’ll have more on this in the next newswire!

March 4th: ROH officials are happy to announce that Alex Koslov from the AAA roster has been added to the jam packed Houston doubleshot on April 3rd and 4th! Koslov has shined in AAA over the past 2 years, and has been part of the “Degeneration Mex” faction with Sean Waltman and former ROH star, Rocky “Azucar” Romero. ROH officials are excited about what Koslov brings to the table and welcome him from south of the border along with impressive lucha freelancers Magno, Incognito, and Blue Demon, Jr.! We’ll have the first of the match announcements for Houston next week, right here in the Newswire!

March 4th: New classes at the ROH Wrestling Academy are starting this week. It's not too late to join. For more information click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/wrestlingschool/

  • March 6th: ROH officials have reviewed the footage from February 6th in Coral Springs, FL, and found that Brent Albright has a legitimate claim to a rematch against Nigel McGuinness. “I had McGuinness right where I wanted him,” said Albright. “He was trapped in the Crowbar about to tap. And sure, he rolled through and had me pinned, but had to cheat to keep me down. He won’t be able to do it again.” The ROH World Championship will be defended just outside of St. Louis in Collinsville on March 13th, and it will be McGuinness facing “Shooter” Brent Albright once again! McGuinness has a lot more to lose in this rematch; can Albright take the next step?

March 6th: Kenny King and Rhett Titus seem to have the world at their feet. After facing the ROH World Tag Team Champions, Steen and Generico, in Indy on March 14th, they’ve already signed to face Erick Stevens and the returning Matt Cross. Now ROH officials have finalized a second tag team match for the boisterous duo; this one to take place on March 21st as part of our Seven Year Anniversary! The “Pretty-Boy Pitbull” and “Addicted to Love” will once more face the powerful Erick Stevens, but this time he’ll be team with Roderick Strong for a match that could have championship ramifications abound should King and Titus win the gold on March 14th!

March 6th: ROH officials are happy to announce that “Spyder” Nate Webb has been added to the March 14th ROH debut in Indianapolis! Webb hasn’t been seen in Ring of Honor for some time, but was a part of the ROH-CZW wars, albeit on the CZW side. That aside, Webb has been a steady fan favorite for some time, and ROH officials are anxious to see Webb in action.

March 6th: Just signed for March 20th in suburban Pittsburgh is a battle between former tag team mainstays - Roderick Strong versus Austin Aries! Strong, fresh off his tour of Pro Wrestling NOAH is looking to take his ROH career to new levels, and by defeating the new-attitude Aries, he looks to do just that. Aries, meanwhile, has shunned seemingly everything that endeared him to the ROH faithful, and shares a personal vendetta against Tyler Black with his sworn enemy, Jimmy Jacobs. Aries has become very volatile as of late, and is completely unpredictable.

March 6th: As seen in the most recent ROH Videowire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4qD_gxO2YA, Prince Nana has returned to ROH, becoming licensed to manage the monstrous Bison Smith! Smith has decimated everything in his path since showing up in ROH, including “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson. Not much is known about Nana, just that it appears he has returned to his former “status”. Not so long ago, he was being ejected from ROH events and seen undertaking various trivial jobs. All attempts to speak with Nana have gone unanswered, and at this point, all we know is that he is back and leading the charge of Bison.

  • March 9th: Eddie Edwards of Larry Sweeney’s American Wolves has issued a challenge for March 20th just outside Pittsburgh. His partner in the Wolves, Davey Richards, was hand-picked by Nigel McGuinness and will be facing the team of KENTA and El Generico. With that in mind, Edwards wants to prove himself in the singles ranks, and Larry Sweeney has no doubt that he will. “It’s simple, Eddie Edwards has been looked over by the wrestling public,” said Sweeney. “But he’s top shelf in a team, and he’s top shelf on his own. Top shelf is only what Sweet-n-Sour deals with, and on March 20th in that dump Pittsburgh, Eddie will show the world why.” Signed for Pittsburgh is Eddie Edwards versus Brent Albright!

March 9th: ROH officials are happy to announce that the ROH World Championship will be defended on April 3rd in Houston. The current ROH World Champion, Nigel McGuinness, has two defenses signed before ROH debuts in the Lone Star State - on March 13th against Brent Albright; and against KENTA on March 21st. Regardless of who is carrying the title by then, McGuinness or not, it will be on the line. ROH officials are anxious to see the outcome of the title match in St. Louis this Friday night so that they can narrow down the challengers for April 3rd in Houston.

March 9th: “The Young Knockout Kid” Chris Hero and Larry Sweeney have been scouting talent as of late, and have been very impressed by the resume of freelance lucha talent, Incognito. “Here’s a guy with tremendous upside,” said Hero. “He’s got the athleticism, heart, and obviously tremendous skill. He just needs direction.” Sweeney added, “Sweet-N-Sour Incorporated has been very successful in guiding foreign talent in ROH, and we’ve been looking to spread our reach into Mexico and beyond.” ROH officials have learned that Sweeney has been in contact with Incognito about a “Sweet-N-Sour Audition” of sorts, apparently to take place in Houston when ROH debuts there on the weekend of April 3rd and 4th. We’ll have more on this going forward.

March 9th: Ring of Honor is happy announce a working agreement with Booker T, the Booker T Fights for Kids Foundation, and the “Legends of Wrestling” Fanfest, taking place at the George R. Brown Convention Center on April 3rd in Houston. This is the same venue that will house the two ROH events that weekend. General Admission Booker T Fanfest tickets are free to anyone who has already purchased a ticket to the April 3rd Ring of Honor event at the Convention Center! This is sure to be a wonderful time for wrestling fans in the Houston area; for more information, please visit http://www.bookertlow.com.

  • March 11th: ROH officials just completed two days of post-production work on the first six weeks of “Ring of Honor Wrestling” at the HDNet studios in Denver. We are very happy with how the series is shaping up thus far, and firmly believe that fans of ROH will be very proud to call the program their own. A heart-felt thank you goes out once again to every fan that came to Philadelphia to create that one-of-a-kind vibe, and we look forward to many more. The next set of tapings will take place on April 9th and 10th. Tickets are now on sale at http://www.rohwrestling.com. We hope to see you all there in person!

March 11th: Just signed for March 20th in Elizabeth, PA is a singles contest pitting Claudio Castagnoli against Jerry Lynn! Castagnoli is seeing his rivalry with Brent Albright go to the next level, as neither man has seemed to be able to gain the upper hand in several contests between the two, and now, he’ll face the ever-popular veteran of the ROH locker room. Lynn has his sights set on making Nigel McGuinness rue the day he disrespected him, and a victory over Castagnoli will only push him closer to another shot at the ROH World Title!

March 11th: Jimmy Jacobs has submitted a request to the ROH Booking Committee for an Ultimate Endurance match to take place on March 21st in New York as part of ROH’s "7th Anniversary Show". Jacobs, however, has requested that the rules be modified to “properly display the hatred” between the combatants. From what he proposed, this match will still be contested under elimination rules, but with two teams, and with each fall now taking place under different “extreme” rules. We hope to have the stipulations for each fall, as well as the participants, next week in the Newswire!

March 11th: The arrogant Sterling James Keenan impressed ROH officials at the ROH on HDNet television tapings, and will appear in suburban Pittsburgh on March 20th in singles competition.

March 11th: Things will start really taking shape for ROH’s huge double shot debut in Houston on April 3rd and 4th after the events this weekend in Collinsville and Indianapolis. We'll have match announcements for both Houston events in next week's Newswire, as well as the announcement of who has earned an ROH World Championship Match to take place during that weekend. Here is the list of the Ring of Honor talent that will be appearing in Houston: ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness; ROH World Tag Team Champions Kevin Steen & El Generico; Bryan Danielson; Tyler Black; Jerry Lynn; Brent Albright; The American Wolves of Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards with Larry Sweeney; Roderick Strong; Jay Briscoe; Chris Hero; Austin Aries; Jimmy Jacobs; The Necro Butcher; Claudio Castagnoli; Erick Stevens; Rhett Titus; plus more to be announced.

March 11th: Prince Nana has finally answered the request by ROH officials to ascertain how it is that he has seemed to resurrect himself from squalor. Nana commented, “What do you know about economic stimulus, you fools! Do you imbeciles not know how Mr. Obama proposes a combined $50 billion to avert looming job cuts in vital industries like my Embassy? I had to stop my operations for many, many, months and assume menial jobs to weather financial storms in this nation. But as anyone with a noodle knows, the world economy follows closely that of the United States – even my beloved Ghana. When Mr. Obama declared $25 billion would be allocated to prevent cuts in health, education, housing, and heating assistance or counterproductive increases in property taxes, tolls or fees at the state and local level, I rejoiced, because now my power will surpass that which has been seen before! My Bison will destroy Danielson, and even my new associate, Mr. Osiris, is now seeing the fruits of his labors!”

  • March 12: Larry Sweeney has been telling people close to him that he’s got two very special opponents in store for Bobby Dempsey, as Dempsey has two contracts leftover from when he was under the representation of Sweeney. The first matchup takes place as part of ROH’s Seventh Anniversary on March 21st in the Hammerstein Ballroom. “That fat slob is going to pay dearly,” said the Super Agent. “Ain’t no doubt about it. There ain’t no doubt at all.” ROH officials are unclear as to when Sweeney plans on making Dempsey live up to the second of the contracts.

March 12: The first names confirmed for the second set of Ring of Honor Wrestling on HDNet tapings are: Roderick Strong, The American Wolves – Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards with Larry Sweeney, MsChif, Tyler Black, The ROH World Tag Team Champions – Kevin Steen and El Generico, and the Dark City Fight Club! The tapings will take place on Thursday, April 9th and Friday, April 10th at the Arena in South Philadelphia. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to be a part of history as ROH brings real professional wrestling back to television!

March 12: ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness contacted ROH Officials over what “Nature Boy” Ric Flair had to say in the March 4th Edition of the ROH Videowire at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4qD_gxO2YA. McGuinness is reportedly unnerved that Flair has stated publicly that he plans on checking Nigel out closely to find out if he is “the man”. ROH officials have been informed that McGuinness plans on speaking to the legendary Flair face-to-face tomorrow night in Collinsville. Tickets will be available at the door! Will Nigel confront Flair for everyone to see? Be there to find out.

March 12th: You can see this week's version of the ROH Video Wire here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyn7c9r_AbE.

March 12: We have learned more about the modified Ultimate Endurance match that Jimmy Jacobs has requested for March 21st in New York. We have now learned that it is unlike traditional UE matches as Jacobs has proposed a 6-Man Tag Team Elimination contest. Similar to UE, the stipulations will change during the match based on the eliminations. But unlike, UE, we’ve been informed that each fall will determine the stipulation for the next. The result of the first fall will directly impact the next fall, and so on until there is only one man left. If a fall is won via pinfall, then the next fall must be won via some other means. If a fall is won via submission, then the following must be won via something different. It also follows that if a fall is won via count-out, then the next fall must be won via other means, meaning the next fall would then be contested under NO count-out rules. What about disqualifications, you ask? In this contest, there are no disqualifications. Because of the unique rules in this match, ROH officials are calling it a “revolution rules” match. We will have the participants next week in the Newswire!

March 12: We’ll have news next week on the huge Doubleshot weekend coming to Houston on April 3rd and 4th, as well as more on the March 20th event in Pittsburgh and, of course, the HUGE ROH 7th Anniversary Show on March 21st in the heart of NYC!

  • Supercard of Honor IV Coming To Houston

    Monday, March 16, 2009

Beginning in 2006, Ring Of Honor has presented the “Supercard of Honor” event as a showcase of its talent, as well as international wrestling talent from across the globe. Whether it be stars from Dragon Gate in crazy 6-man action, Jimmy Jacobs and BJ Whitmer in a bloody cage match, or Nigel and Aries giving it their all for the ROH World Title, the past couple years have presented ROH fans with the best wrestling events of their respective years.

Well now it is official: April 3, 2009 will mark the fourth annual “Supercard of Honor” event as ROH makes in debut in Houston, TX at the George R. Brown Convention Center. And in addition to this announcement, ROH has two huge matches in store for the fans in attendance that night.

In conjunction with Pro Wrestling NOAH and Kensuke Office, Ring of Honor has signed two top shelf matches of international proportions. The first pits the former GHC Jr. Heavyweight Champion, Katsuhiko Nakajima against one of the pillars of ROH, Roderick Strong. Fresh off a tour with Pro Wrestling NOAH, Strong is very familiar with Nakajima’s mentor, Kensuke Sasaki, after their brutal battle at “The Tokyo Summit”, and has gone toe to toe with Nakajima as well in their fantastic tag team scrap at “All Star Extravaganza IV”. This contest will be certainly be a hard hitting affair, and worth the price of admission alone. But that’s not all we have…

KENTA, newly crowned GHC Jr. Champion for the 3rd time, will put his title on the line on April 3rd against a man with whom he is very familiar, Davey Richards. The history between these two dates back to 2006 when KENTA took on Richards as a protégé of sorts. They competed as a unit, trained together, and even battling one another at “Fight of the Century” in August of 2006. But after Davey joined the NRC, that relationship abruptly ended. Since then, both men have grown as fighters, have captured titles, and raised their value in the wrestling world. Now they will square off in a GHC Jr. Title bout that will most certainly be a stand-up war of vicious kicks and brutal striking. Also, should KENTA defeat Nigel McGuinness this Saturday in NYC, ROH officials are looking into having this match be contested for both the ROH World Title and the GHC Jr. Title!

In addition to these two bouts, ROH is also bringing some of the best Mexico has to offer in the current NWA World Champion Blue Demon Jr., Alex Koslov, Incognito, and Magno. Tickets are available for April 3rd, as well as the PPV taping on April 4th, right here at http://www.rohwrestling.com. If you are going to be in Texas that weekend for some wrestling, than you better be at Ring of Honor!

  • March 16th: As announced in this morning’s main page article at http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2673, two incredible matches have been made official for “Supercard of Honor IV”, taking place on April 3rd as Ring of Honor debuts in Houston! KENTA will defend the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship against his former “protégé” and current Sweet-N-Sour cohort, Davey Richards, and the incredible Katsuhiko Nakajima will face Roderick Strong in singles action!

March 16th: By many accounts, Claudio Castagnoli cost Brent Albright the ROH World Title last Friday night in suburban St. Louis. As Albright had Nigel McGuinness locked in the crowbar with no escape and Ric Flair looking on, the “Most Money Making Man” attacked Brent and saved the title for his European brother. The “Nature Boy” had seen enough as he leveled Claudio and Nigel with several chops, sending them out of the ring, but that didn’t satisfy Albright, who was livid post-match. “I’ve had enough of Claudio. He’s got all the tools to be a great, but he’s just too big of a piece of (expletive) to do it right. But that all will stop at the Hammerstein. I want Claudio, and I want him in New York.” ROH President Cary Silkin, also present ringside for the Collinsville events, was quick to act; signing it for this Saturday night in New York as part of ROH’s "7th Anniversary Show". It will be Castagnoli vs. Albright in Midtown Manhattan and the stakes between these two have never been higher!

March 16th: Delirious has finally had enough of the AOTF rhetoric as he violently broke free with a bloody embrace of Daizee Haze last Friday in Collinsville. The Lizard Man had been conflicted for some time, and it was the Haze that was able to break through. Delirious fell in his first attempt at one-on-one revenge against Jacobs in Indianapolis, but that hasn’t deterred him in the least. Delirious will be a part of the Revolution Rules War this Saturday night as he’ll team with the Necro Butcher and Tyler Black to battle Jacobs, the mammoth Brodie Lee, and surprisingly, Austin Aries! “My issue with Tyler is only growing,” said Aries. “A-Double enjoyed punching Tyler and other people in the face last time in NYC, so it only makes sense to run it back and do it again.”

March 16th: Word has it that Prince Nana was very pleased with his Bison and what he accomplished over the weekend in Collinsville and Indianapolis. Apparently Nana was not at the side of Bison as he was with his staff of attorneys working on “potential mergers and acquisitions”. Bison lost a count-out decision to Bryan Danielson on Friday night and destroyed Silas Young on Saturday before attacking Danielson again. It took several staff members, security, and wrestlers to separate the two. “My Bison will eliminate the Dragon,” said Nana. “But we will enjoy doing it and we will take our time. First, I will bring my Bison to destroy Pittsburgh! And then, I challenge Bryan to face my Bison in a tag team match Saturday in New York City. I will bring my Bison and a partner for him, and I will not leave New York until we have our victory! Danielson! Bring a partner of your choice, you fool!”

March 16th: ROH officials and the Booking Committee had several conference calls this morning to discuss the Ring of Honor World Championship match to take place as part of ROH’s Houston debut on April 3rd and 4th. Reigning champion, Nigel McGuinness, will defend the title against KENTA this Saturday in New York, and the outcome of that match will be the deciding factor as to which Houston card this championship match will take place on and ROH officials are prepared to shuffle the line-ups should the need arise. ROH officials and the Committee have ruled that based on recent past and by virtue of his pinfall victory over Nigel McGuinness in tag team action last Saturday in Indianapolis; that Jerry Lynn has earned and will receive the title shot during that debut weekend.

March 16th: You can see the latest preview for Ring of Honor Wrestling on HDNet featuring ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness here: http://blip.tv/file/1875895.

March 16th: ROH returns to the great white north on April 17 and 18 to Montreal, Quebec and Markham, Ontario! Currently signed for ROH’s return to Canada are: “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson, ROH World Tag Team Champions – Kevin Steen and El Generico, Austin Aries, the Necro Butcher, “that Young Knockout Kid” Chris Hero, Kenny Omega, Delirious, Rhett Titus and Kenny King, and Bison Smith. More talent and match announcements are forthcoming!
