  • AXS TV, Home Of Impact Wrestling, Is Now Reporting Nielsen Ratings

In a story that fell way under the radar, but has also sort of been floating around for months, I can confirm that AXS TV, home of Impact Wrestling and Women of Wrestling, is now, like the major networks, rated by Nielsen. Under Mark Cuban’s majority ownership, AXS was never tracked by Nielsen the way most networks are, instead relying on separate figures from Rentrak/Comscore, which measured viewership via regular cable and satellite set-top boxes. While it could very well be as accurate as or more accurate than Nielsen’s industry-standard ratings, Nielsen is the accepted standard by advertisers, so AXS generally didn’t run regular commercial spots.

An AXS spokesperson confirmed AXS’s Nielsen-rated status in response to an email from this reporter. The change had been suspected since December 30th, when The Wrap published its annual list of the top 115 cable networks, ranked in two separate lists by average audience, both in prime time and and across the entire day. There, AXS came in at an average of 64,000 viewers in prime time, good enough for 92nd place in that day part, and 26,000 viewers across the entire day, good enough for 99th place in the more overarching list. According to the AXS spokesperson, the network had been in its introductory information-gathering period for about a month at the time, with the network’s programming being properly Nielsen-rated on a show-by-show basis since the start of 2020.

So, how has Impact been doing in the Nielsen ratings? We don’t really know. Show Buzz Daily, the remaining website with reliable regular ratings data, only runs a list of the top 150 cable shows each day in the key adults aged 18-49 demographic, and Impact hasn’t hit the top 150 once. Wrestling Observer Newsletter editor Dave Meltzer, the lone wrestling reporter to regularly have any kind of deeper ratings access, hasn’t reported any Impact numbers this year, either. All we can really say is that, in the 18-49 demographic, it’s doing worse than 150th rated show on Tuesdays, which usually—but not always, as it was a tick lower two weeks ago—does a 0.04% rating in that demo group.

AXS TV gefragt. Und regelmäßig antwortet dieser Mitch Salem dann:
"As we seem to need to say every week, we do not get any AXS ratings."

    Zitat

AXS TV and HDNet Movies are being offered to distributors as a free preview from now through May, owner Anthem Sports & Entertainment said. That allows cable, satellite and other pay-TV providers to offer the channels for free to non-subscribers. AT&T's DirecTV and U-verse have taken up the offer, Anthem said, as has the National Cable Television Cooperative. Network free previews have started to proliferate during the coronavirus outbreak that has prompted millions of people around the country to stay at home.

    Zitat

"AXSTV is no longer available as our agreement with the owner of this channel has expired."

    Zitat

Anthem Sports & Entertainment networks AXS TV and HDNet Movies have a renewed agreement with the National Cable Television Cooperative providing access to more than 750 small to mid-sized cable and broadband operators around the country.

  • Impact Wrestling on AXS TV on Tuesday this week drew 163,000 viewers, up from 156,000 the week before and 135,000 the week before that. The average since March 24 has been 145,000. So it appears the buzz generated from the Slammiversary PPV on Saturday night with the arrival of Heath Slater, Luke Gallows, and Karl Anderson and the returns of EC3, The Motor City Machine Gunns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley), and Eric Young may have helped add some viewers. Impact drew more viewers on May 12, and nine of the first ten weeks of the year it drew more than 163,000. The empty-arena setting has correlated to drops in viewership in the single digit percentages (5-10 percent, roughly) compared to projections based on seasonal ebb and flow in viewership annually.

Impact has averaged 147,000 viewers since April. It averaged 174,000 in January, February, and March. That’s a drop of 15 percent. Impact, like most wrestling shows, would have likely experienced a single-digit percentage drop in viewership without the pandemic. What’s not known is whether the absence of other live sports on cable had sent led to some viewers actually watching pro wrestling who wouldn’t have otherwise. That will begin to be tested in coming days as live sports returns to cable.

Impact is, by a wide margin, the most viewed show on AXS TV.

In the key 18-49 demo, Impact drew a 0.05 rating for the first time since Feb. 25, tying its high demo rating for the year. NXT, by comparison, drew a 0.17 rating in the demo, more than triple Impact’s rating in that demo. AEW drew a 0.32 in that demo, more than six times Impact’s rating in that demo.

The no. 50 ranked show on cable on Tuesday drew a 0.13 rating. Impact was right around the 103rd most watched cable show on Tuesday night in that demo, tied with “Road Kill” on Motor Trend among a few other shows with the same demo rating.

  • Na wo kommen denn auf einmal solche konkreten Zahlen her?
