  • Former WWE Champion Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio) is heading a new promotion called Nacion Lucha Libre. The promotion was announced at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. Above is video from the presser, courtesy of +LuchaTV.

The new promotion will launch on Thursday, July 11 with a show at Sala de Armas in Mexico City, Mexico. That event and future NLL events will air on Saturdays from 10:30pm CST until midnight on the ImageTV network, according to Lucha Central. The first show will air on Saturday, July 13, two days after it tapes in Mexico City.

The new promotion will launch on Thursday, July 11 with a show at Sala de Armas in Mexico City, Mexico. La Batalla Inicial (The Initial Battle) and future Nación Lucha Libre events will air on Saturdays from 10:30 pm CST until midnight on the ImageTV network, according to Lucha Central. The first show will air on Saturday, July 13, two days after tapings in Mexico City. A tribute to Dos Caras, El Patron’s father, and Tinieblas is advertised for La Batalla Inicial.

El Patron received the support of Héctor García, head of the National Center for the Development of Sports Talent and High Performance and El Fantasma, president of the Lucha Libre Commission of Mexico City, in his new project.

If former WWE manager Ricardo Rodriguez is listed as a referee for the promotion, the wrestlers El Patron has been able to convince to join him in are pretty impressive. Legends of Lucha Libre will join the young generation in a brilliant series of matches at La Batalla Inicial.

MVP or Chavo Guerrero Jr. will face Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fénix, Daga, Flamita, El Hijo del Fantasma, Puma King or The Laredo Kid. Former AAA and Lucha Underground Champion Sexy Star will find on her way another Lucha Underground talent in Thunder Rosa, aka Kobra Moon. European talents Bram and Heddi Karaoui are also set to appear.

Here is the card of La Batalla Inicial:

Team Mexico (Alberto El Patron, Dr. Wagner Jr. & El Hijo del Fantasma) vs. Team Puerto Rico (MVP, El Mesias & Apolo)
Rey Fénix & Pentagon Jr. vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr. & Mecha Wolf 450
Damian 666 vs. El Solar vs. Negro Navarro vs. El Canek
Fresero Jr. & Mr. Iguana vs. Bestia 666 & Black Taurus vs. The Laredo Kid & The Tiger
Flamita & Daga vs. Rey Horus & Puma King
Sexy Star, Lady Flammer & Reina Oscura vs. Thunder Rosa, Cristy Jaynes & Stephanie Vaquer
Bram, La Mascara & Batab El Guerrero vs. Hijo de Dos Caras, Hijo de Wagner & Dual
    Relampago vs Heddi Karaoui

"Alberto told the press that Nacion Lucha Libre will run 35 dates this year, including shows in Las Vegas, San Antonio and Austin. Also, they're going to NJPW by the end of the year. I bet that comes as a surprise to NJPW."

The likes of former WWE United States Champion MVP, Chavo Guerrero, Alberto El Patron and Carlito are involved with the promotion. There are a number of Mexican independent wrestlers that are involved with Nacion Lucha Libre as well and wrestlers who compete on AAA TV but have not been signed to AAA. The promotion has shows scheduled out through the Summer but no further dates have been announced past that. Former AAA Mega Champion Alberto El Patron is the face of the promotion from the business perspective but Daniel Leal was introduced as the director of Nacion Lucha Libre.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Alberto El Patron recently promoted a match through social media by having a feud with Pentagon Jr, claiming that the latter wasn’t a star because a real star wouldn’t wrestle in front of 300-400 fans and he would never do that because he’s a real star. He was hyping a three-way tag match on May 5 in Monterrey with Patron and his brother El Hijo de Cien Caras against Pentagon and Fenix and El Hijo de Dr. Wagner & Galeno del Mal.

Patron said that because of the crowds he’s worked in front of, he’s one of the biggest Mexican stars of all-time. He claimed he had heat with his uncle because he’s a bigger star than Mil Mascaras ever was. Pentagon then said that Patron used to be a star but wasn’t anymore. There were some who thought the two actually had legit heat.

When the actual match came around, the show only drew 500 fans in a 5,000 seat building. Patron was then mocked on social media for his drawing power. He doesn’t wrestle as much as he used to. The last time he wrestled in Mexico City was a few months ago, and that didn’t bring in as many fans as he used to either.

    ^^
